Japanese vs American Management Styles

What is Japanese Management Style.

The Japanese management style is a management concept of Dr. William Ovichi to revive the economic downturn in Asia in the 1980s. It focused on increasing employee loyalty to the company by providing employment for life, with a strong focus on employee well-being both outside and outside of work. His system also tends to promote stable employment, higher productivity and higher employee morale and satisfaction (Anon., 2015).

What is American Management Style.

America is one of the most advanced countries in the world and leader in modern management methods as well. Many people in America live their lives freely without any social trials and barriers and its economy is a free economy. They want to live an independent life and are accustomed to the ‘hire and fire’ style of management. Contract-based employment began in the United States and is followed by other countries around the world (Anon., n.d.).

  2. Please follow the Harvard reference and citation style.

Whatever you cited should appear in the reference list and whatever appear in the reference list should be cited in the main body of the text.

    Please consider following points.
The blog article should importantly have three parts.
    i) Introduction to the topic
ii) Global context of the topic. (How it has been practiced globally, why they practice it and the benefits of practicing the selected HR concept.)
iii) Application of the selected topic to the selected company. (Why they have to apply, how they would apply, expected benefits etc.
    And finally, a brief conclusion.

  8. In the context of Sri Lanka and the employee behaviors, there should be a mix of both system. Whilst having a more established system which has long term objectives, space should be allowed for the other way around too. The background of the people should be taken into serious consideration.

  9. While appreciating the effort made on comparison made between two international theories I strongly believe you as a member of Sri lankan origin company and we as people of a country with long history need to find at least one our own method to international level in respect of the HR or People concerns.

  11. Interesting article. the topic is important to realize where we are? As a Sri Lankan organization, what should we do? Japanese organization Is focusing on employee loyalty. American organisation Is following " hiring and firing" style. However, Japanese concepts are well accepted all over the world. eg - lean manufacturing. as per my views, the Japanese method is more beneficial for employees.
